WCG 2002 Daejeon was held in Expo Park in Daejeon, Korea from October 28 to November 3, for 6 days. About 1.5 million people from all over the world participated in the preliminary contests, 456 Esports athletes from 45 countries participated in the finals, and more than 50,000 people visited the venue.

Germany's Christian Höck won the Unreal Tournament, Lim Yo-hwan of Korea won the two consecutive gold medals at StarCraft: Brood War. They were named as the WCG's first Hall of Famer. South Korea won two consecutive WCG championship title with two gold medals and two siver medals.
