As
the capital city of Korea for over 600 years,
Seoul is a fascinating city blending the modern
story as can be seen in the historic relics
of gung Heunginjimun (Dongdaemun).
The changes in the seasons can also be experienced
in the capital city thanks to the breathtaking
landscape provided by the mountains which
surrounded it, most notably Nam Mt.(Namsan),
and the Han river(Hangang) which can be seen
from almost any point in the city. Recently,
Korea has hosted numerous international scanty
including the Seoul Olympic Games in 1988,
and successfully hosted the 2002 FIFA World
Cup last year.
Today, Seoul has grown into a true cosmopolitan
city replete with a variety of modern facilities
and world renowned tourist attractions. |

belongs to the Temperate Zone featuring four
distinctive seasons of spring, summer, autumn
and winter. The yearly average temperature
of Seoul is 12.9 Celsius. Average temperature
during the competition in October is 14.4
Celsius and especially famous for its azure
autumn skies. |

Area |

| The
total area of Seoul is 605.52km2, or 0.6%
of the entire country. The Hangang (River)
bisects the city into two parts: northern
part (Gangbok) and southern one (Gangnam).
Gangbok region totals 297.97km2 (49.2 %) while
Gangnam is 307.55 km2 (50.8 %). |

Population |

| Seoul
has a population of 10,280,523 as of the end
of 2002. This accounts for about a quarter
of the total national population. Since Seoul
became the capital of the nation in 1394,
the population of Seoul has grown 110 times. |

Gyeongbokgung (palace) |
| Built
in the fourth year of King Taejo's
reign in 1395, Gyeongbokgung is
the most representative palace
of the Joseon Dynasty. The grandeur
and imposing beauty of the palace
is well represented by Geunjeongjeon,
the main hall, Gyeongheoru, an
impressive two-story pavilion
where the king held a banquet
for his subjects, and Jeongjeon,
the king's office where he addressed
national affairs. |

Changdeokgung (palace) |
| Changdeokgung
is one of the five most representative
palaces of the Joseon Dynasty
and the best preserved among the
five. Its rear garden is laced
with various types of pavilions
and thousands of plants and trees,
reflecting the characteristics
of Korean traditional gardens
which emphasize harmony with nature. |

Lotte World |
| Lotte
World is an amusement park complex
with unique indoor and outdoor
entertainment facilities. It is
composed of Lotte World Adventure,
a gigantic indoor amusement park,
Magic Island, an outdoor lakeside
amusement park and Lotte World
Folk Museum featuring miniature
replicas of ancient palaces. There
are also indoor sports facilities
for skating, swimming and bowling.
Lotte World Shopping Mall features
the Street of Fashion that leads
the fashion trend, the Street
of Daily Necessities, the Street
of International Market, restaurants
for variety of foods. It has 5
movie theaters, and family restaurants,
so that visitors can enjoy their
own life styles ranging from fashion
to cultural styles. It's close
to the players' village(2km). |

| COEX
Mall, a fantasy world, is full

Mt.Nam (Namsan) |
| Mt.
Namsan (265m above sea level)
is a symbolic mountain located
at the center of Seoul. Although
not so high, because of its location
and view at the top, Mt. Namsan
is very popular as a resting site.
At the top of Mt. Namsan, there
are various facilities such as
Palgakjeong (octagonal hall),
Seoul Tower, Maritime Aquarium,
fountains, botanical gardens and
Namsan Library. You may take a
cable car to the top or walk up
the stairway path. It would be
great as well to visit Namsangol
Traditional Korean Village, which
is a village of 5 traditional
Korean houses. |

63 Building |
| The
63 Building, 60 stories above
ground and three underground levels,
is a huge self- contained city
erected vertically on a total
floor space of 160,000 square
meters. A total of 264 meters
high, it is composed of the 63
Golden Tower, the super-high observatory,
a huge indoor aquarium, a super-screen
IMAX Theater, a shopping center,
restaurants, a bowling alley,
a bank, and a post office. The
observatory on the top floor soften
the building not only provides
a spectacular view of downtown
Seoul, but it also allows you
to see as far as the Yellow Sea
off the coast of Incheon. Because
the elevator walls are constructed
of transparent material, you can
look out as the elevator climbs.
Since the views change as the
height varies, it seems as if
you are in a plane. |
