Referees |WCG 2009
Chief Referee-Rajesh Bijlani WCG Grand finals 2008 at Cologne, Germany was my first year as referee and I was refereeing for my favourite game Carom3D. It was an exhilarating experience where I got to mix with the best of gamers as well as referees from all over the globe who give their time and effort for the successful completion of grand finals. I am looking forward to my refereeing in Chengdu, China for WCG grand finals 2009 and I am sure this will be as memorable, if not more, than last year. The country is the most promising and I hear the city of Chengdu is technologically very advanced. I am sure I speak for all referees when I say that we hope to make the WCG 2009 Grand Finals a gala success and make sure the games are played with the spirit of fairness and sportsmanship so let the best players win!!!
Chief Referee-Verena Vlajo I have been playing computer and video games my whole life and for a couple of years I also played a lot of smaller tournaments in Austria and Germany. But when I came to WCG 2005 Grand Final in Singapore as a player I was amazed by the atmosphere of such a huge event and all the people taking part in WCG. I made a lot of new friends and decided I wouldn’t want to miss any Grand Final in the future. Being a referee gives me the opportunity not only to come and visit again but also take my part in helping to make the Grand Final a success. I am looking forward to the Grand Final in Chengdu which I think will be bigger and better than last year, getting to know China a little bit and meeting a lot of referees again.
Referee-Jong Yoon Choi The World Cyber Games is the world’s first "Cyber Game Festival," designed to build a healthy cyber culture. Each year, the best gamers around the world gather in different cities to share the excitement and fun of the game tournaments. I was honored to have such great opportunities to participate at the WCG as a judge (for Counter-Strike) three times already and I witnessed excitements, energetic atmosphere, and high enthusiasm among all participants. Although I have been a part of the festival for a few years now, I am, once again, very nervous and excited for this year's WCG which will be held in China. Especially, the grand final game of the WCG will be held in the most beautiful city, Cheng-du, which I believe will make this festival even more exciting. I am looking forward each and every player’s fair play and I have no doubt that this year's competition will be as fantastic as it was before.
Referee-Jong Yoon Choi Once again, being selected as a WCG Grand Final Referee is truly a honor. I have had the amazing opportunity to have refereed twice for the World Cyber Games Grand Finals, with the 2005 Grand Finals at Singapore being my first, and again at the 2006 Grand Finals in Monza, Italy. The experience from previous Grand Finals have been fantastic and memorable and quite unlike any other E-Sports event in the world. As with each Grand Finals, I will be meeting with old friends from all over the world and working together. New friendships will be made, stories to be shared and jokes to be told. As a Referee, the challenges will be demanding, but nonetheless rewarding. The festival like atmosphere at the Grand Finals, certainly makes the long hours and hard work pass quickly. Being able to view the games first hand and meeting some of the best gamers in the world is but an added bonus. Here's to a great and successful Grand Finals and I look forward to meeting you all in Chengdu.
